Conceptual Chemistry Alive! is the author-created website supporting Conceptual Chemistry, a textbook that focuses on the basic concepts of chemistry and how these concepts apply to our daily experiences.
Conceptual Chemistry Alive! features over 200 video lesson tutorials given by the author, John Suchocki. These video lessons are a "talking textbook." They are an excellent resource for students who, in addition to reading the textbook, need to see and hear the concepts in action. Each video lesson averages only 7 minutes in length. For some videos, it may seem the author moves through the curriculum rather slowly. For others, you may be compelled to hit the rewind button repeatedly. Please skip and meander through these videos as you see fit so as to optimize your learning.

Also featured on Conceptual Chemistry Alive! are numerous worksheets, called Practice Pages, which are minds-on, pencil-pushing activities designed to guide you through some of the tougher concepts presented in the textbook. The Practice Pages are formated as .pdf files that you may freely download and print.
The CCAlive! Special Topics are a compilation of articles that highlight real-world applications of the concepts of chemistry. These articles are an extension of the "Contextual Chemistry Spotlight Essays" appearing between each chapter of the textbook. This in-progress feature of ConceptualChemistry.com is created primarily by students who write the articles as a special assignment.
Students are encouraged to explore the many EXTRAs also available through this website. This includes author-generated answers to the Practice Pages, RATs and Discusssion Questions.
The Conceptual Chemistry curriculum is becoming increasingly popular with home schools seeking college-prep chemistry. For this reason, we have developed a home school area of this website dedicated to answering questions or concerns regarding the use of Conceptual Chemistry within a home school environment.
TECHNICAL NOTES:
Please contact our This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it (shown above in a red shirt) for any technical issues you may have in operating this website. General comments or suggestions you may have to offer are also appreciated. (Note: On some computers, Microsoft Explorer does not progressively download the video lessons, which means you have to wait until the entire video has been downloaded before it will play. If you're having this issue while using Firefox, try moving over to the Safari browser)
Another technical note: If the pages of this website are loading very slowly, then there's a good chance that our modest web server is being overloaded by too many requests. You can confirm this by looking to the bottom of this home page. If there are over 50 guests online, then you might experience some slowness. At over 100 guests, then it's probably a Tuesday or a Wednesday, which are this site's most popular days. You'll find this site runs most efficiently on Fridays and Saturdays.
We are soon to upgrade to a more efficient server. . . any financial contribution you are able to offer would be most helpful in this regard.
Good chemistry!
Dear CCAlive user,
This website has become more popular than our web server is able to handle efficiently. Although this is a good problem to have, it also means major upgrades are required for which we need your support.
Over the past week a handful of generous people have come forward to contribute, which makes me optimistic that more of you will soon follow. With this continued support, I'm looking to have the server upgraded by mid-March.
To encourage more people to help out, registration will begin once the new server is up and running. Notably, site registration will remain free of charge. As always, your contribution is voluntary.
Please consider supporting this website for the value you receive from it. Click here to contribute any amount. For $15 I will also send you a copy of my detailed Chapter Summaries, which students tell me they find very helpful.
Good chemistry to you,
John Suchocki

Note: To use this website, your internet browser must have the QuickTime plugin enabled. We recommend the FireFox browser for its simplicity and broad compatibility. However, if the videos of this website don't start playing right away, then try using Safari.
The CCAlive video lessons are now compatible with iPads, iPhones, and other web-based mobile devices.
